Book Review: The Very Hungry Toilets
In her debut picture book, the author uses her experience as an educator to create an imaginative, rhythmic tale for young readers to easily follow along on Tyler and Tilly’s quest. The sing-song phrases are set to brightly colored illustrations that show all of the familiar details of a classroom. The author does a great job of showcasing the diversity among the students. All young readers have an opportunity to see themselves in this cheeky book.
The Very Hungry Toilets is an entertaining, clever, and enjoyable read. The story highlights very relatable topics on curiosity, adventure, and mischief. It’s reminiscent of classical stories in which inanimate objects come to life with their silly personalities. It also opens the door for parents to have a conversation with their little ones about being sneaky and overindulging in snacks. The story wraps up with a sweet moment of teamwork as the classmates join forces for a common goal. Great life lessons for children and adults alike!
I highly recommend this book to any parent looking for a delightful story and who doesn’t mind a little toilet humor. Child laughter is guaranteed.
